Signatures, initials and photos become transparent images: the page under them stays visible, with no white box. The date and any text you type are written as real text in an embedded font, so they can be searched and copied like the rest of the document. Ticks and crosses are drawn as lines. Nothing else in the file is touched — links, form fields and the original text stay as they were.
Only pages you put something on are changed. The previous version of this tool had a bug worth knowing about because other simple signers share it: paging through the document carried the signature box along and signed every page you looked at. Pages are also placed as displayed, so on a scan stored sideways the signature lands where you dropped it rather than rotated into a margin.
A photo of your signature on white paper looks the most like you. Sign in dark ink, photograph it flat in good light, and choose it under Image. Pale pixels are made transparent and the ink keeps its own colour, so a blue pen stays blue. If your paper is grey or shadowed, crop the photo first, or untick “Remove the paper background” to place it as it is.
Typed signatures use four handwriting fonts that ship with the page — Dancing Script, Great Vibes, Caveat and Homemade Apple — so a signature typed on an Android phone, which has no cursive font of its own, looks the same as on a Mac.
What this tool produces is an electronic signature: your mark, placed on the document with your intent to sign. In the US the ESIGN Act and UETA, and in the EU the eIDAS Regulation, give electronic signatures legal effect for most everyday agreements — offer letters, leases, consent forms, invoices, supplier contracts.
It is not a certificate-based digital signature. Those add a cryptographic seal that proves who signed and shows if the file was changed afterwards, and some documents require one: many government filings, notarised deeds, and in the EU anything that must carry a “qualified” signature. If a form asks for a digital or qualified signature, use the provider it names. Wills and some property transfers still need ink in most places.
Nor is there an audit trail. Paid e-signature services record who opened the document, from where and when; this page records nothing, because nothing is sent anywhere. For a document between two people who know each other that is usually fine; where a signature might be disputed, an audited service is worth paying for.
What this tool does and does not do, stated plainly. The “No” rows are the point, not an omission.
