How the word counter works
Type or paste anything and the counter measures it live. A word is any run of characters between spaces, tabs or line breaks — the same rule word processors use, so the number matches Google Docs and Microsoft Word. Characters are counted two ways: with spaces (what Twitter/X and SMS count) and without spaces (what some academic word limits use). Sentences are counted by terminal punctuation (. ! ?) and paragraphs by blank lines.
Reading time assumes 225 words per minute (average silent reading); speaking time assumes about 130 words per minute, a comfortable presentation pace.
